IQVIA Medical Research Data (IMRD)

IQVIA Medical Research Data (IMRD)

IQVIA Medical Research Data (IMRD) is real world data, which contains the longitudinal non-identified patient electronic medical records (EMR) from 6 million patients. IMRD is used for medical and public health research and treatment analysis.

IQVIA Medical Research Data (IMRD)

What is IMRD?

A real-world research database with NHS Health Research Authority approval for medical research and treatment analysis.

Data source

IMRD includes non-identified patient data supplied from UK General Practices contributing to IQVIA’s Medical Research Extract Scheme (MRES).

Research using IMRD?

Population-based research using IMRD can provide valuable insights into primary care managed diseases and treatments to help inform healthcare decisions.

Governance

The data are non-identified and collected with appropriate approvals. IQVIA has developed a governance framework for managing patient level datasets to ensure maximum utility whilst respecting the privacy of individual patients and their data subject rights.

IMRD uses

  • IMRD can be used for scientific research across academia, public health institutions and life sciences companies.
  • Typical applications include: epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, drug safety, public health research, drug utilisation studies, post authorisation safety studies (PASS), treatment analysis and comparison, outcomes research, health economics research/resource utilisation, risk management, morbidity and mortality research.

With in-house expertise in epidemiology, data science & analytics our Real World Solutions team can support your research needs.

Key benefits of IMRD

  • Large database contains data from 6 million patients. A large sample size can increase the statistical power of studies thus improving the accuracy and reliability of findings.
  • Data is collected from a diverse patient population across different age, gender and ethnicity providing a representative picture of GP managed care.
  • A large and representative database can improve generalisability ensuring that the study findings can be applied to different settings and populations.
  • Data recorded during real-world clinical practice can provide valuable insights into safety and effectiveness of medicines in an everyday setting.
  • Research using IMRD can inform healthcare decisions with a view to improving patient outcomes.

Non-identified data Included in IMRD

  • Patient details: year of birth, gender, GP practice registration date, practice de-registration date, ethnicity, postcode linked Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD).
  • Clinical events: coded symptoms, diagnoses with dates, referrals to hospitals.
  • Prescribed medication: all prescriptions with date issued, drug name, formulation, strength, quantity, dosing instructions.
  • Tests and other health data: smoking status, height, weight, blood pressures, pregnancy, birth, death.
  • Immunisations: all in-practice immunisations.

Access to IMRD

  • IMRD can be accessed through data extract licenses and delivered through IQVIA’s secure technology platforms.
  • Researchers can obtain access to data for single or multiple studies.
  • IQVIA can facilitate expedited query and protocol review to support various types of medical research.
