Obesity Insights and Intelligence

IQVIA Institute resources for advancing the understanding of the science and impact of obesity.

Obesity is a complex, heterogenous, chronic multi-disease that is associated with many other health conditions, including diabetes, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and cancer. The global burden of obesity is rising, with 1 billion people worldwide expected to have obesity by 2030, inflicting severe health impact on individuals and significant health economic consequences for businesses, health systems and societies. While the serious impact of obesity has been well-known for decades, recent approval of novel obesity treatments backed by compelling clinical efficacy has rejuvenated the interest in obesity, associated comorbidities, and its implications.

The IQVIA Institute for Human Data Science is at the forefront of the evolving obesity landscape. The IQVIA Institute offers stakeholders data, evidence, and insights about several important topics relating to obesity, including:

  • The science of obesity, including the understanding of obesity as a multi-disease
  • Research methodologies addressing the complexities of a multi-disease such as obesity
  • Life sciences innovation, clinical research, pipeline, and development of new treatments
  • Health economic implications, including understanding the direct and indirect costs of obesity
  • Impact on clinical practice and the transformation in the role of primary care and direct-to-consumer platforms in patient education, prevention, and treatment
  • Access to obesity treatments, including issues around cost and value of obesity care, reimbursement, and health disparities

The following Institute publications offer data and information on obesity:
