The Digital Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research (DIGICORE) is a public–private partnership to digitize cancer outcomes research. Over the last two years, a six-centre technology pilot began, called the Digital Oncology Network for Europe (DigiONE). We are excited to announce that this pilot to develop a privacy-preserving network of cancer centres with a core cancer dataset in OMOP common data model format has recently been revealed in a Nature Medicine publication.

In the pilot for DigiONE, six centres are combining strong clinical phenotypes, molecular data, treatment and outcomes locally in cancer OMOP nodes with overnight updates using multiple technologies and a common design. Those nodes are then federated for protocolised research. The resulting insight network transforms the speed and richness of European real world evidence and digital pragmatic trial opportunities. DIGICORE has secured grant funding from EISMEA to scale DigiONE to 18 centres.

Proof of concept studies in lung cancer and breast cancer are underway. These Disease Natural history and care quality assessment studies (DINASTY) include a comprehensive clinical characterisation of patients, the treatments they receive, and could support cancer control programmes by detailing local variation from best practice guidelines.

Learn about this maturing multi-year technology pilot and how it can transform:

  • care quality improvement (guideline compliance) and care pathway research
  • the supply of external controls to single arm clinical trials
  • create “precision pragmatic” trial opportunities and biomarker validation options
