EXPLORE PODCASTSThe Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is rapidly evolving, and MSL training must evolve with it. According to field leaders, MSLs are increasingly interacting with new kinds of external stakeholders, driving insight generation and supporting strategic company goals through internal deployment of insights, which requires MSLs to utilize a high level of interpersonal skills to meet these expectations. Post-pandemic, MSLs are also emerging as the Medical Affairs roles with the most access to key opinion leaders (KOL). So, MSLs need to upskill in order to balance the company’s strategic objectives with providing enough benefit to the KOLs they want to engage. If MSLs are not sufficiently trained in strategic and interpersonal skills, they can lose KOL engagement opportunities, resulting in detrimental impact to their company’s strategic goals.
To meet this emerging need, IQVIA has created a new approach to MSL training. This approach draws on an evidence base for training on interpersonal skills that has expanded just as rapidly as the MSL role. This white paper addresses how IQVIA has integrated key advances in the fields of learning theory, behavioral science, and technologies for training delivery into a Core Field Medical MSL training program that teaches targeted information through methods that MSLs of all experience levels can easily remember and implement.
