The recent inaugural webinar of the Health Data Passport series, titled Exploring Real World Data Around the Globe, showed users how to streamline the process of data identification, evaluation, and characterization. The webinar kicked off 12 months of global data exploration during which experts from countries around the globe will deep dive into available data in their region.  

 

Finding Data Faster with the IQVIA Health Data Catalog

The webinar began with the challenge and need to accelerate Real World Data searches and evaluation. Michele Arnoe, IQVIA’s Head of Real World Data demonstrated IQVIA’s Health Data Catalog (IHDC), a revolutionary tool that can simplify and accelerate your search for the right Real World Data around the globe. 

 

Created to Address Key Data Challenges 

IQVIA’s Real World Data team initially created the Health Data Catalog (IHDC) for internal purposes – to help them to evaluate and provide the best real world and healthcare datasets for client projects quickly and effectively. This enables deep filtering and initial characterization of the datasets, reducing the time spent on data identification by 80%. 

 

“As the project grew, we realized the catalog had the potential to bring great organization to our client’s data investigations. And to address the challenges faced by many different stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem, including regulators, providers, government, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and healthcare professionals and institutions,” said Ms. Arnoe.

 

Covering Over 100 Countries and 200 Variables

The IHDC catalog is the largest agnostic Real World Data reference source of its kind covering more than 100 countries, providing information on existing data assets in each. It offers both breadth and depth of information, with over 200 variables identified to qualify these datasets where possible. 

 

Simplifying RWD Search for All Stakeholders

The healthcare data ecosystem is extremely complex – featuring not just different data types, formats, and software platforms, but also multiple geographies, stakeholders, languages, and even data entry preferences and storage regulations. This complexity of finding, accessing, comparing, and reusing data a daunting and research-intensive task. Incorporating FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), the IQVIA Health Data Catalog, can dramatically simplify this process. The FAIR principles, initially published in 2016 by a group of scientists, emphasize machine actionability, which refers to the capacity of computational systems to find, access, interoperate, and reuse data with minimal human intervention.

 

One Port of Entry, Continually Updated

The Health Data Catalog provides a single, convenient, point of entry for sharing and accessing knowledge about health datasets throughout the globe, and for almost any use case application. The IHDC is continuously updated with new information in a structured process by data owners and experts.

The catalog contains several sections, each filled with information about the datasets, including their content, accessibility, update frequency, and ethical approval requirements.

 

Ease of Use, Robust Search Parameters

The catalog is easy to use, and designed to help anyone in the healthcare ecosystem who may need to leverage data, including researchers, corporations, providers, and regulators. It allows users to quickly filter and compare data based on various parameters, making it an indispensable tool for research projects that require data of specific types, features, or quality.


The IHDC is also flexible and open to possibilities. It offers three main offerings: access to the catalog and its ongoing development, access to the content via an API, and a combination of both. The latter allows users to benefit from the continuously updated content while keeping some information confidential.

 

The Research Accelerator Data Analytics Suite

Introducing the Analytics Research Accelerator, Ed Banfield, the Associate and Product Strategy Director responsible for raw data query and analytics products, outlined the next steps for the innovative solution. The Analytics Research Accelerator is a flexible, integrated, and expandable solution that harnesses a variety of IQVIA products and services to meet the research and analytic needs of clients.

The solution is designed to provide the right data, tools, and expertise for life science research projects, offering an elegant solution with power, sophistication, and global reach. The Analytics Research Accelerator has been tailored to meet and exceed the requirements of clients, with a flexible approach to applications and services.

The Analytics Research Accelerator concept empowers data science teams and allopathic processes, providing depth and ease throughout the reporting lifecycle. Built, designed, and refined in consultation with real-world industry clients, ensures the tool closely matches client needs and offers acceleration in production time.

 

The Pillars of Data Analysis

The Analytics Research Accelerator is based on four pillars: data, clinical feasibility, cohort characterization, and health data access. These pillars represent the depth of analysis that clients have asked for across their operations. The solution offers a common delivery platform that organizes results and enables easy delivery of analysis.

  • The clinical feasibility pillar provides tools and services to quickly analyze worldwide datasets and identify potential markets. 

  • The cohort characterization pillar allows for deeper analysis and visualization of data. 

  • The health data access pillar introduces powerful data extraction and database sharing functionality to support and enhance integration with existing analytic processes.

 

Cost-Effective Self-Managed Solution Available

The Analytics Research Accelerator offers both self-managed and fully managed solutions, as well as pay-per-view and license models. The self-managed solutions provide 24/7 access to data and functionality, while the fully managed services are based on experienced data science teams conducting the analysis. The pay-per-view model is cost-effective and scalable, while the license model allows for deeper analysis and supports data exports and sharing.
